Changan Automobile and CATL introduce sodium-ion batteries, to be implemented in multiple vehicle models by 2026.

Changan announced today that it will introduce sodium-ion batteries in collaboration with CATL and launch sodium battery electric vehicles under its multiple brands. According to CATL's Chief Technology Officer, Gao Huan, CATL's sodium battery cell has an energy density of up to 175 watt-hours per kilogram, with the pure electric vehicle model having a range of over 400 kilometers and potentially upgrading to 500 kilometers or even 600 kilometers in the future. The range of hybrid models could also exceed 300-400 kilometers. It is planned that CATL will deploy 3000 battery swapping stations in over 140 cities this year, and will work with Changan to quickly launch multiple sodium battery electric vehicle models by 2026.
