Xi Jinping spoke on the phone with US President Trump.
On the evening of February 4th, President Xi Jinping of China had a telephone conversation with President Trump of the United States. Xi Jinping pointed out that over the past year, we have maintained good communication, successfully met in Busan, and steered the navigation of China-US relations, which has been welcomed by the people of both countries and the international community. I attach great importance to China-US relations. In the new year, I am willing to continue to work with you to lead the ship of China-US relations through the winds and waves, steadily moving forward, and to achieve more significant and positive results. The US has its concerns, and China has its concerns. China's words are trustworthy and actions are accountable. As long as both sides approach each other with an attitude of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, solutions can be found to address each other's concerns. This year, both China and the US have important agendas. China has initiated the "15th Five-Year Plan," and the US will celebrate its 250th anniversary. Both countries will host the APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting and the G20 Leaders' Summit, respectively. Both parties should strengthen dialogue and communication, properly manage differences, expand practical cooperation, and accumulate mutual trust step by step, to find a way for correct coexistence, making 2026 a year for China and the US to move towards mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. Xi Jinping emphasized that the Taiwan issue is the most important issue in China-US relations. Taiwan is part of China's territory, and China must defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and will never allow Taiwan to separate. The US must handle arms sales to Taiwan carefully. Trump said that both the US and China are great countries, and US-China relations are the most important bilateral relations in the world. I have a great relationship with President Xi, and I respect President Xi very much. Under the leadership of President Xi and me, the US and China have had good interaction in the fields of economics and trade. I am happy to see China's success, and the US is willing to strengthen cooperation with China to promote new developments in our bilateral relationship. I attach importance to China's concerns on the Taiwan issue and am willing to maintain communication with China to ensure the stability of US-China relations during my term in office.
