OpenAI CEO Sam Altman downplayed the viral artificial intelligence social network Moltbook on Tuesday, saying it may be a trend, but he believes that the technology enabling robots to act autonomously provides a glimpse of the future. Altman made the comments at a Cisco artificial intelligence summit in San Francisco, where tech leaders discussed the Reddit-like site where AI-driven robots appear to be exchanging code and discussing their human owners. The network began as a niche experiment at the end of last month but has become an increasingly debated focal point for discussions on how close computers are to possessing human intelligence. The rise of Moltbook also brings risks. Cybersecurity company Wiz stated that a major vulnerability exposed the private data of thousands of real people. On the site is an open-source robot named OpenClaw -- previously known as Clawdbot or Moltbot -- described by its fans as an assistant capable of handling emails, dealing with insurance companies, checking in at airports, and performing countless other tasks. Altman said, "Moltbook perhaps, but not OpenClaw." The code is indeed powerful, but when combined with the widespread use of computers, the idea becomes even more powerful and will continue to persist.
