On the morning of February 3rd, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Uruguayan President Alsi, who was on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi Jinping pointed out that although China and Uruguay are separated by vast oceans, the two countries share similar beliefs and deep friendship. Today marks the 38th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay. Over the past 38 years, regardless of changes in the international situation, the two countries have always adhered to the principles of mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation. In the new situation, both sides should uphold tradition, deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership, and make the tree of friendship between the two countries grow even more robust. Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Uruguay should continue to firmly support each other's core interests and major concerns, enhance friendly exchanges at all levels and in all areas, strengthen exchanges in governance experience, and deepen strategic mutual trust. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee adopted the suggestions for the "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan", mapping out blueprints for China's economic and social development in the next 5 years, and providing more opportunities for countries, including Uruguay. The two sides should strengthen strategic alignment, deepen cooperation in economy, trade, finance, agriculture, animal husbandry, infrastructure construction, information communication, and explore the potential for cooperation in new emerging areas such as green development, digital economy, artificial intelligence, and clean energy, to promote economic growth transformation and upgrading. The Chinese and Uruguayan peoples share a natural closeness, and both sides should continue to deepen cultural, educational, sports, media, and local exchanges, facilitate personnel exchanges, and promote people-to-people communication. Xi Jinping pointed out that the world is currently undergoing major changes unseen in a century, with complex international situations, escalating unilateral bullying. China supports Uruguay in assuming the rotating presidency of the "77 Group and China", and is willing to strengthen global South-South cooperation with Uruguay to jointly promote a world multipolarization that is equal and orderly, and an inclusive economic globalization, work hand in hand and seek common development, and make greater contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind. China has always attached importance to China-Latin America relations, supporting Latin American and Caribbean countries in safeguarding their sovereignty, security, and development interests, supporting Uruguay in assuming the rotating presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the Southern Common Market, and is willing to work with Uruguay and regional countries to promote the deepening and solidification of the construction of a community with shared future for China and Latin America.
