After the sharp drop in gold prices, "Can newly purchased gold jewelry be returned?" has become a concern for some consumers. After visiting several gold shops and consulting legal professionals, it was learned that whether gold jewelry can be returned depends mainly on the purchase channel, purchase type, and the store's policies. If purchased through an online platform and meets the platform's 7-day no reason return policy, and if the item is in good condition, unworn, and undamaged, a return can be requested, but some stores may charge a 1% to 5% return handling fee. Some consumers shared screenshots of a statement from a gold brand salesperson at a counter in a social media group declaring: "You cannot return the item just because the gold price dropped, we do not accept any reasons, and all returns will be charged a fee of 500 yuan." Some interviewed consumers expressed understanding of the investment nature of gold and willingness to pay the fee, but still felt that the percentage was high, and the platform did not clearly indicate the fee when they applied for a refund. In response, Lu Yun, the director of the Consumer Rights and Product Quality Safety Legal Professional Committee, pointed out that businesses must clearly remind consumers in a significant way to ensure that consumers are fully informed.
