The United Nations is facing a serious financial crisis.

On January 30, local time, Farhan Haq, the Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated that Secretary-General Guterres has written to all member states about the current dire financial situation of the United Nations, warning that the UN faces the risk of running out of funds and calling on member states to take urgent action. Haq said that despite more than 150 member states paying their dues last year, the total amount of outstanding dues now stands at a staggering $1.56 billion, doubling from the previous year. He warned that as long as these two issues persist, the United Nations faces the real risk of running out of funds.
