In December, the newly approved mortgage loans in Hong Kong increased by 7.1% from November to HK$31.2 billion.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced the results of the residential mortgage survey for December 2025. The number of new loan applications in December decreased by 5.1% compared to November, to 7,612 cases. The amount of new mortgage loans granted in December increased by 7.1% compared to November, to HK$31.2 billion. Among them, loans granted for transactions in the primary market increased by 8.2% to HK$11.7 billion, while loans granted for transactions in the secondary market increased by 7.6% to HK$16.8 billion. As for loans granted for refinancing transactions, there was a decrease of 0.6% to HK$2.7 billion. The amount of new drawdown mortgage loans in December increased by 1.7% compared to November, to HK$20 billion.
