The EU has passed a regulation banning the import of Russian natural gas. Russian natural gas accounts for approximately 13% of the EU's total imports.
In order to reduce dependence on Russian natural gas, on the 26th local time, the 27 member states of the European Union officially passed regulations to gradually ban the import of pipeline natural gas and liquefied natural gas from Russia. Hungary has stated that this action seriously damages its national interests and plans to bring the case to the European Union Court of Justice. The European Commission also plans to propose legislation to gradually stop importing Russian oil by the end of 2027. In recent years, the EU has significantly reduced its imports of natural gas and oil from Russia. According to the announcement, by 2025, Russian oil accounted for less than 3% of the total EU oil imports, but Russian natural gas still accounted for around 13% of the total EU imports, valued at over 15 billion euros.
