The overseas business scale of American car companies continues to shrink.
Over the years, the overseas business of American car companies has been shrinking. General Motors sold its European business Opel to Peugeot in 2017, which later merged with Fiat Chrysler to form Stellantis Group. In the third quarter of this year, General Motors' revenue from markets outside the United States, Canada, and Mexico accounted for only 8%. Ford is currently still a mainstream car brand in a few countries like the UK and Australia, but its market share in Europe has significantly decreased. Data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association shows that Ford's market share in the EU has dropped from 5% in 2020 to 3% last year. Last year, Ford closed its factory in Saarlouis, Germany, a city close to the French border.
