On January 24, the head of the Department of Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy of South Korea, Ryu Han-kyu, said that the investigation launched by the South Korean government into the data breach involving the e-commerce giant Coupang does not involve any "discrimination" and should not escalate into a trade dispute between South Korea and the United States. Ryu Han-kyu returned to South Korea from Davos, Switzerland on the same day and told reporters at Incheon International Airport that during the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, he met with the U.S. Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, to exchange views on bilateral trade affairs. He informed Greer that the investigation into Coupang was not because it is a U.S. company.
