According to a report by ABC on the 23rd local time, as the US military continues its operations against so-called "drug trafficking ships", the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine, is convening a "rare" meeting of senior military officials from 34 countries in the Western Hemisphere. ABC reported that, according to a statement provided by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the media, the meeting is scheduled to take place on February 11, with defense ministers and senior military representatives from 34 countries attending to enhance consensus on common security priorities and deepen regional cooperation. The statement also mentioned that the defense leaders in attendance will discuss a variety of topics. The report stated that this is the first time such a meeting has been convened, and it appears to focus on strengthening cooperation in combating "drug trafficking and criminal organizations". ABC noted that this meeting comes as the US has deployed its largest military force in the Caribbean in decades, launching over 35 attacks on so-called "drug trafficking ships", while the Trump administration is also focusing on Greenland. Since early September last year, the US military has conducted multiple strikes on so-called "drug trafficking ships" in the Caribbean Sea and the Eastern Pacific, resulting in over a hundred deaths. However, the US government has not provided any evidence to prove that its targets were involved in drug trafficking.
