On January 23rd local time, the United Nations held a special meeting at its headquarters in New York to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Economic and Social Council. The theme of the meeting was "80 years of the Economic and Social Council: a turning point for multilateralism." UN Secretary-General Guterres delivered a speech at the meeting, reflecting on the role of the Economic and Social Council over the past 80 years and calling on countries to strengthen multilateral cooperation, accelerate progress towards sustainable development goals, and reform the international financial architecture.
