Tesla lost more new car buyers in California last year than any other car manufacturer, indicating that this electric car maker is gradually losing ground in one of the world's largest electric vehicle markets. According to data released by the California New Car Dealers Association, Tesla's share of new car registrations in the state last year was 9.9%, down from 11.6% in 2024. This decline is more than three times that of the Dodge brand under the Stellantis Group, causing Tesla to fall to the third largest car brand in the state in 2025; the previous year, Tesla ranked second only to Toyota Motor Corporation's eponymous flagship brand.
