There are storage products that have increased in price by up to 1000%. Media: Soaring storage prices are affecting consumer electronic products.
Reuters released an article titled "Storage chip prices soar, dim prospects for consumer electronics manufacturers". It points out that due to the sharp increase in storage chip prices, hardware manufacturers from the UK's Raspberry Pi to HP have chosen to raise prices. Global demand for smartphones, PCs, and gaming consoles is expected to shrink this year. US tech giants including OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft are building large-scale AI infrastructure, consuming a large amount of global storage chip capacity. Chip manufacturers, driven by profit motives, prioritize supplying limited resources to data centers, leading to a tightening supply of chips for consumer electronics and continuously rising prices. However, the pressure of chip price increases is spreading to the end market. IDC and Counterpoint's latest forecasts show that global smartphone sales will decline by at least 2% this year, marking a significant reversal from previous growth estimates and the first annual decrease in shipment volume since 2023. The personal computer market is also under pressure. IDC predicts that after growing by 8.1% last year, global PC shipments will decline by at least 4.9% in 2026. TrendForce, on the other hand, predicts that after growing by 5.8% in 2025, gaming console sales will decline by 4.4% this year.
