The Gates Foundation and OpenAI plan to invest $50 million to use artificial intelligence technology to help alleviate the long-standing shortage of medical staff in 1,000 grassroots medical clinics and their surrounding communities in Rwanda and other African countries by 2028. Bill Gates announced this plan at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, stating that this technology has the potential to "completely change the current situation of poor countries accessing quality medical services." The philanthropist and co-founder of Microsoft said, "Our goal is to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence tools in grassroots medical clinics, communities, and homes." Healthcare has become a key focus area for technology groups working to promote the application of artificial intelligence tools, as they develop products aimed at reducing doctors' workload and speeding up treatment processes.
