The number of amateur football players in China has reached 980,000.

The third meeting of the 12th National Congress of the Chinese Football Association was held in Beijing. Song Kai, Chairman of the Chinese Football Association, stated that by 2025, the social football competition system will begin to take shape, with 16 provinces already hosting city leagues and a total of 980,000 amateur players, a 95% increase from 2024. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, China will build a multi-level, diverse social football event network, continuously nurturing mass events such as the "Hundred Cities, Thousand Counties, Ten Thousand Villages" brand. The proportion of provincial-level top amateur leagues joining the "Football China" platform will exceed 90%. Optimization of layout, construction, and management of public football facilities will be carried out to promote the registration of over 2 million players.
