Reuters reported on the 19th that according to two sources, the Reserve Bank of India proposed connecting the official digital currencies of BRICS countries to facilitate cross-border trade and tourism payments. With escalating geopolitical tensions, this move may help reduce dependence on the US dollar. According to reports, the Reserve Bank of India has advised the government to include a proposal to link the digital currencies of various central banks in the agenda of the 2026 BRICS summit. The summit, which will be hosted by India later this year, could mark the first formal proposal to promote interoperability of digital currencies among BRICS member countries.
