The German government announced on the 19th that it will provide subsidies of up to 6,000 euros to families who purchase new electric cars to promote the development of the domestic electric car industry. This is similar to the subsidy that Germany provided after ending its original electric car purchase subsidy policy by the end of 2023. The German Ministry of Environment said in a statement on that day that the subsidy is aimed at private consumers and is applicable to pure electric cars, certain plug-in hybrid cars, and range-extended electric cars newly registered from January 1, 2026. According to the government's classification criteria based on vehicle type, household size, and income level, the subsidy amount ranges from 1,500 euros to 6,000 euros. German Environment Minister Svenja Schulze stated that the total scale of the subsidy plan is 3 billion euros over 3 years, and is expected to support up to approximately 800,000 electric cars, helping to accelerate the popularization of electric vehicles in Germany and providing strong support for the German automotive industry. The German government had implemented an electric car purchase subsidy policy since 2016, but due to financial pressure and budget deficits, the subsidy was terminated at the end of 2023. After the subsidy ended, the number of pure electric cars registered in Germany significantly decreased, with a year-on-year drop of over 27% to 380,000 cars in 2024.
