In the past half month, continuous heavy rainfall and flooding have swept through multiple countries in southern Africa. As of the 16th, hundreds of people have died in the disasters in Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. The meteorological department warns that as the rainfall continues, the situation may further escalate. Several provinces in central and southern Mozambique have been affected by floods. The country's disaster management agency stated that from the end of last year to January 15 of this year, 103 people have died in this unusually strong rainy season, with direct causes including lightning strikes, electrocution, drowning in floods, infrastructure collapse, and cholera. The World Food Programme said that over 200,000 people in Mozambique have been affected, with thousands of houses damaged, over 70,000 hectares of crops flooded, and the local food insecurity worsened.
