The State Council Taiwan Affairs Office responded to a reporter's question regarding the public security organs lawfully collecting information on two Taiwanese residents suspected of illegal acts.
The Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference on the 24th. A reporter asked: Today, the public security authorities issued a reward notice, lawfully soliciting clues from Taiwan residents Jian Wensheng and Chen Shunjin, who controlled the Togolese vessel "Hongtai 58" to smuggle frozen goods to the mainland for a long time. In February of this year, the DPP authorities accused the "Hongtai 58" of accidentally damaging the Taiwan Strait cable, claiming that the mainland deliberately destroyed it, conducting "Grey Zone provocation." What is your comment on this? The spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Peng Qing'en, stated that after investigation by public security authorities, the two Taiwan residents Jian Wensheng and Chen Shunjin are habitual smugglers, controlling the "Hongtai 58" and other vessels to smuggle frozen goods to the mainland for a long time. Currently, the public security authorities have issued a reward notice for these two individuals, hoping that compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait will actively provide clues to illegal activities. Relevant parties will strictly protect the information and legitimate rights of informants according to the law. Peng Qing'en pointed out that the "Hongtai 58" incident in February of this year was actually caused by Jian and Chen engaging in smuggling crimes while controling the "Hongtai 58" vessel. The DPP authorities disregarded the facts of the case, maliciously hyped up the mainland's "Grey Zone provocation," and attempted to stir up opposition and confrontation between the two sides of the strait. The DPP authorities are warned that sheltering and tolerating smuggling crimes and manipulating politics to disrupt cross-strait relations will be met with the united opposition of compatriots from both sides of the strait, and they will reap what they sow. That same morning, the Weihai Public Security Bureau issued a reward notice stating that in June 2025, during the investigation of 7 mainland crew members of "Hongtai 58," they discovered a smuggling criminal gang led by Taiwan residents Jian Wensheng and Chen Shunjin that controlled multiple vessels, including the Togolese "Hongtai 58," smuggling frozen goods to the mainland for a long time. The Weihai Public Security Bureau stated that it is now offering a reward for the capture of Jian Wensheng and Chen Shunjin according to law, and is actively seeking clues from the general public. Informants who provide effective clues to the public security authorities, as well as those who assist the authorities in apprehending relevant criminal suspects, will be rewarded with 50,000 to 250,000 RMB depending on the circumstances. The informant email address is [email protected] and the hotline is 0631-110.
