Journalists from the main station learned on December 23 that due to serious budget shortages, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan has begun to close several field offices and operational bases in the country, including important locations such as Torit, Yei, and Akobo. This action is in line with the overall budget reduction and personnel reduction plan set by the UN Secretary General. The mission explained that "delayed payments and shortfalls from member states" are the main reasons for this contraction. Witnesses recently observed UN convoys withdrawing from the Torit base, which was previously a frequent conflict zone.
