Google accused of infringing the privacy of Spanish users.
According to a report by Agence France-Presse on December 19, a Spanish consumer rights organization announced on the same day that it has initiated a pre-litigation procedure against Google, accusing the company of collecting sensitive personal data and violating privacy rights. The Spanish Telecommunications Users Association accuses the American tech giant of collecting data on users' personal opinions, religious beliefs, and health conditions through its applications and Android operating system. The association's secretary-general, Bernardo Fernndez, condemned Google for not even providing the most basic protection, and pointed out that it could offer the same services without collecting "excessive data". The Spanish Telecommunications Users Association stated that they have requested the Madrid court to obtain the identity information of Google and Android users. According to their estimates, the number of affected users in Spain could be as high as 37 million.
