Report predicts that China's demand for steel will decrease slightly in 2026.
The report on the forecasted domestic and global steel demand for 2026 released by the Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute on the 19th in Beijing shows that the steel consumption in China in 2025 may be 8.08 billion tons, a decrease of 5.4% compared to the previous year; China's steel demand in 2026 may be 8 billion tons, a decrease of 1.0% compared to the previous year. Globally, the report predicts that the global steel consumption in 2025 will be 1.719 billion tons, a decrease of 1.8% compared to the previous year; the global steel demand in 2026 will be 1.736 billion tons, an increase of 1.0% compared to the previous year. The report indicates that in 2025, due to insufficient domestic demand, especially the deep adjustment in the real estate market, the overall steel consumption in China will decrease. In conclusion, in 2025, the steel consumption in industries such as automobile, machinery, energy, shipbuilding, bicycles, and motorcycles shows a growing trend, while the consumption in industries such as construction, containers, and steel and wooden furniture decreases.
