Hong Kong Monetary Authority: The total credit card transactions in Hong Kong increased by 14.8% to HK$285.6 billion in the third quarter.

On December 19, according to the statistics released by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority for the third quarter of 2025 on the issuance of payment cards in Hong Kong, as of the end of September this year, the total number of credit cards circulating in the market by 8 institutions was 25.08 million, an increase of 10.0% quarterly and 23.6% annually. In the third quarter, the total number of credit card transactions was 382.61 million, an increase of 6.2% compared to the previous quarter, and a 16.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The total transaction amount for credit cards was 285.6 billion Hong Kong dollars, an increase of 6.4% compared to the previous quarter, and a 14.8% increase compared to the same period last year. Within the total transaction amount, 173.3 billion Hong Kong dollars were spent on consumption in Hong Kong, 103.1 billion Hong Kong dollars were spent overseas, and 9.1 billion Hong Kong dollars were cash advances.
