The defendant Li Yu, Xu Xiangyang, and Jia Xia were sentenced in the first instance of a criminal incidental civil lawsuit involving a major safety accident in an educational facility.

On December 19, 2025, the People's Court of Fangcheng County, Henan Province, publicly tried defendants Li Yu, Xu Xiangyang, and Jia Xia on charges of causing a major safety accident in an educational facility, as well as a related civil lawsuit brought by plaintiff Fan Yonggui. The court rendered a verdict on the spot, sentencing Li Yu to seven years in prison for the crime of causing a major safety accident in an educational facility, sentencing Xu Xiangyang to six years and six months in prison, and sentencing Jia Xia to six years in prison. At the same time, the court prohibited Li Yu, Xu Xiangyang, and Jia Xia from engaging in any education-related profession for five years after the completion of their sentences. The court also rejected the civil lawsuit filed by Fan Yonggui and others.
