Today, the Hong Kong SAR Government held a meeting with the incoming members of the eighth Legislative Council to exchange views on how to promote communication and cooperation between the executive and legislative branches in the future, as well as how to strengthen Hong Kong's economic development. The Secretary for Administration, Cheung Kin-chung, expressed in his speech at the meeting that it is an important innovation for the SAR Government to communicate with incoming members of the eighth Legislative Council before their term begins. He hopes that by communicating and reaching consensus with incoming members at an early stage of policy formulation, the SAR Government can govern more in line with public opinion. Cheung Kin-chung pointed out that Hong Kong is currently facing key opportunities such as aligning with the national "14th Five-Year Plan", accelerating the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and fully developing the Northern Metropolis Area. In the new term of the Legislative Council, he and the bureau chiefs hope to establish and maintain a positive, efficient, and mutually trusting communication and cooperation with the members. They also hope to form a solid partnership based on "trust, assistance, and complementarity". They firmly believe that with the diligent performance of the incoming members, deep community engagement, listening to public opinion, and actively providing suggestions, the executive and legislative branches will be able to work together to propel Hong Kong forward steadily on the path of reform and innovation.
