Level 3 autonomous driving vehicle products are granted entry permits, marking the mass production application of intelligent connected vehicles.
On December 15th, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the first batch of L3 conditional autonomous driving vehicle models allowed for access in China. Two models, one for city congestion and one for highway driving, will be piloted in designated areas in Beijing and Chongqing. "China's autonomous driving has taken an important step in its development process with L3 autonomous driving moving from the testing stage to commercial application," said Wang Ning, director of the Automotive Industry and Technology Strategy Research Center at Tongji University. This indicates that the maturity of L3 autonomous driving technology has been recognized by authorities, showing the feasibility of mass production application, and laying the foundation for the development of higher-level autonomous driving in the future.
