The US State Department approved a $100 million arms sale to Japan.

The U.S. Department of Defense's Under Secretary for Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced in a news release on December 16 that the U.S. State Department has approved a nearly $100 million military sale to Japan for technical support and related equipment for Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyers equipped with the "Aegis" combat system. The news release stated that the Japanese government requested follow-on technical support for the "Aegis" destroyers, including at-sea system certification testing, test and evaluation services, "Aegis" computer software updates, system integration and testing, with an expected total cost of $100.2 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has submitted the necessary certification documents to the U.S. Congress. The primary contractor for this sale will be Lockheed Martin Corporation.
