According to the press release from the Hong Kong SAR government, the Food Safety Center of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today that in response to a report from the World Organization for Animal Health, which stated that highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza had broken out in Edmunds County, South Dakota, and Wayne County, North Carolina, the center immediately instructed the industry to temporarily suspend the import of poultry meat and poultry products from the aforementioned areas to safeguard public health in Hong Kong.
