A report released by Counterpoint Research shows that due to the impact of the memory chip shortage pushing up costs and compressing capacity, global smartphone shipments may decline by 2.1% next year. This is in sharp contrast to the estimated 3.3% increase in shipments this year, as the research firm had previously predicted a slight increase of 0.45% next year. The organization pointed out in the research report released on Tuesday that due to the overall increase in electronic component costs by 10% to 25%, the average selling price of smartphones worldwide will increase by 6.9% next year.
