Around 10am on December 16th, as the laying operation ship of Dejing No. 106 submarine cable entered the designated sea area near Weizhou Island, the first cross-sea interconnection project in the Beibu Gulf - the South China Power Grid 220 kV Weizhou Island cross-sea interconnection project began laying submarine cables. This is the first 220 kV submarine cable in China to use domestically produced insulation materials. After the project is put into operation, it will end the history of Weizhou Island's "isolated power supply" and inject strong momentum into the economic development towards the sea in Guangxi. According to estimates, after the project is put into operation, based on the carbon emissions from gas-fired power generation, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 4318 tons. Taking island guesthouses as an example, the stable power supply from the grid will replace the diesel power generation cost of 300 yuan per hour during the peak season, significantly reducing operating costs and achieving significant energy savings and carbon reduction effects. In addition, the project can also accommodate the demand for offshore wind power integration near the island, providing a key transmission channel for future offshore wind power in the Beibu Gulf, and creating a new energy support point for towards the sea empowerment.
