Journalists learned on the 15th local time that US President Trump has officially sued the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for defamation, seeking $5 billion in damages. According to a partial content of an internal BBC memo exposed on November 3, the documentary "Trump: Second Chance?" aired by the BBC program "Panorama" last year spliced together two segments of Trump's speech, making it appear that Trump was inciting supporters to participate in the riot at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. The BBC's splicing of the speech sparked a huge controversy. Trump's legal team demanded on November 10 that the BBC withdraw the documentary and apologize, or else they would file a lawsuit seeking at least $1 billion in damages. The BBC apologized to Trump on November 13 for the misleading editing, but refused to compensate the demands made by the Trump side.
