"Replacing calculation with storage" triggers a storage price hike cycle. Experts predict that prices for major consumer electronics such as smartphones and computers are set to rise in 2026.
Since the third quarter of this year, the global storage chip market has seen a "epic-level" price surge. According to data from third-party research institutions, the spot prices of the two main product categories in the storage chip field, DRAM and NAND Flash, have both risen by more than 300% cumulatively since September. Industry insiders pointed out that this round of price surge, unlike previous ones, is driven by the rise of "storage-replacing computing" technology in AI development, and the market gap is unlikely to be filled in the next one or two years. Several consumer electronics company executives and storage industry experts told Securities Times reporters that the trend of price increases for major consumer electronic products such as phones and computers in 2026 has been set, and consumer electronics companies may adopt a combination of measures such as structural price increases, downgrading specifications, and sharing costs with the industry chain, with the timing of the combination of measures possibly coming around the upcoming New Year.
