Aerospace technology expert Chen was sentenced to 11 years in prison for espionage after losing money in stock trading.
On December 15th, the central confidentiality office guided by the national comprehensive publication "Confidentiality Work" on WeChat public account "Confidentiality Observation" disclosed a case of a research worker selling state secrets due to losses from stock speculation. Chen, a technical backbone, had worked in multiple aerospace research institutes. In 2012, Chen met an agent of a foreign spy organization and accepted intelligence collection tasks assigned by them. After transmitting several documents, Chen regretted his actions, refused further requests, and voluntarily cut off contact. In 2018, due to losses in stock trading, Chen urgently wanted to make up for the losses. At this time, the agent found him again, and they resumed contact. From 2018 to 2021, Chen took photos of a large number of internal and classified documents he encountered at work and provided them to the agent, earning a total of 433,500 RMB illegally.
