According to a report from Nikkei News, the cooperation between American entertainment giant Disney (DIS.N) and the artificial intelligence developer OpenAI on AI-generated videos could have a significant impact on the strategic layout of Japanese content providers. Many Japanese companies are taking a wait-and-see attitude towards AI-generated videos, especially after a large number of imitation videos of Japanese original content such as "Pokemon" emerged online following the release of Sora2 by OpenAI in September 2025, intensifying industry concerns. In response, industry groups such as the Japan Content Overseas Distribution Association, publishing companies, and anime organizations have issued statements demanding that OpenAI stop unauthorized model training. Disney's latest moves have not changed their stance. "Our opposition to copyright infringement by generative AI will not change," a representative from a large publishing company said. At the same time, Disney has been steadily integrating AI video generation technology into its business model. Japanese professionals may miss out on the emerging wave of AI content revenue.
