Chair of the West Community: The West African region is in a state of emergency.
According to local media reports, at the 55th Ministerial Conference of ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council held in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria on the 9th, the Chairman of the ECOWAS Commission, Omar Tour, said that the West African region is currently in a state of emergency. Tour said that recent events have shown that the security environment in the West African region is rapidly deteriorating, with ECOWAS member states at a "high average risk level", and "our community is in a state of emergency". He said that current regional risk factors include ongoing military interventions, Guinea not complying with political transition norms, decreasing inclusivity in elections in multiple countries, the expansion of the influence of terrorists, armed groups, and criminal networks, as well as increasing geopolitical pressures.
