Beijing's first "alcohol cessation chip" implant surgery completed
At Beijing Huilongguan Hospital, Mr. Zhang, diagnosed with severe alcohol dependency, walked into the treatment room and underwent the first "alcohol cessation chip" implant surgery in Beijing. The so-called "alcohol cessation chip" is a white sustained-release tablet of naltrexone hydrochloride, which is a drug that works by blocking opioid receptors and acts on the reward circuit in the central nervous system to suppress the patient's craving for addictive substances. It is generally used as an adjunctive treatment in the rehabilitation period of detoxification. Clinical studies have shown that this drug also has good effects in alcohol addiction. Compared to traditional oral or injectable formulations, the implant has advantages such as longer drug delivery period, better compliance, and stable drug blood concentration. After implantation of this drug in alcohol-dependent patients, the pleasure from drinking alcohol will decrease, and the frequency and amount of drinking will also decrease accordingly, in order to achieve the treatment goal.
