SoftBank's Son Masayoshi discusses the details of the high-tech factory plan with the White House.
According to reports, after months of discussions with officials from the White House and the Department of Commerce, Masayoshi Son, the CEO of SoftBank Group based in Tokyo, is finalizing details of a plan. Under the plan, he may mobilize hundreds of billions of dollars to build Trump Industrial Parks across the United States. According to sources, these facilities will mainly be built on federal land, using funds promised by the Japanese government as part of a recent trade agreement, and will produce components for AI infrastructure. These funds could potentially start flowing as early as the beginning of 2026. Sources reveal that President Trump has theoretically expressed support for Son's plan, and discussions between SoftBank and the US government are ongoing. White House spokesperson Kush Desai said in a statement, "President Trump's relationships with leaders from various industries and regions play a crucial role in ensuring trillions of dollars in investments that are helping to build America's next golden age." Details are still evolving, but the current plan requires SoftBank to help drive the construction of factory clusters, produce fiber optic cables, data center equipment, and ultimately produce AI chips. Japanese technology companies will provide most of the specialized technology for these new businesses, and once completed, these facilities will be owned by the federal government.
