US report concludes: US Defense Secretary used communication software to transmit classified information, "endangering US military security"
The "Group Chat Gate" involving US Defense Secretary Hagel has sparked new controversy. According to reports from media outlets such as CNN and ABC on the 3rd, multiple sources revealed that a report submitted to Congress by the Department of Defense Inspector General on the 2nd concluded that Hagel had transmitted details of US military strike operations in Yemen through a group chat using the encrypted messaging app "Signal" in March this year. This act may pose a risk of leaking confidential military information, endangering the safety and mission objectives of the US military. According to the report, the US Inspector General found that the military plans disclosed by Hagel in the chat originated from a document classified as "confidential" by US Central Command. In addition to determining that Hagel's actions may endanger US military security, the report detailed that he shared highly sensitive information with unauthorized individuals and failed to maintain communication records as required by federal law.
