Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Consumer Goods Industry Department: Accelerate the production of new electric bicycles that satisfy consumers.

The transitional period for the implementation of the mandatory national standard "Electric Bicycle Safety Technical Specifications" for the new version of electric bicycles officially ended on November 30, 2025. Electric bicycles that meet the new standards are gradually being introduced to the market. Some new products have configurations such as saddles, rear racks, and rearview mirrors that do not fully meet the practical needs of consumers, which has attracted widespread attention. Officials from the Consumer Goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology responded to questions from reporters on this issue. Officials from the Consumer Goods Industry Department stated that the purpose of revising the new standard is to reduce and eliminate the safety hazards such as fires and traffic accidents caused by electric bicycles throughout the entire chain, while also improving functionality, product diversity, driving comfort, and usability. Currently, more than 600 models from over 100 companies nationwide have passed CCC certification and are being introduced to the market, with the vast majority meeting consumer needs well. However, some companies did not fully understand or accurately implement the new standards, especially in the product design process where they did not adequately consider consumer needs, resulting in vehicles that have received criticism after being produced and introduced. This situation is not a common occurrence in the industry. In response, the Consumer Goods Industry Department has guided relevant companies to quickly optimize their product design plans and speed up production of electric bicycles that satisfy consumers. At the same time, the China Bicycle Association is required to further enhance industry self-discipline, increase the promotion of the new standards, and organize member companies to fully and accurately implement the new standards. In the next step, the Consumer Goods Industry Department will continue to closely monitor the opinions and suggestions of consumers regarding electric bicycle products, promote continuous improvement of product development and design by electric bicycle manufacturers, increase the market supply of new standard models, and better meet the travel needs of consumers.
