In 2025, China's small and medium-sized banks are undergoing a wave of mergers and reorganizations, with rural commercial banks and agricultural banks accelerating their "exit". According to information released by the National Financial Regulatory Bureau and the latest data from the Enterprise Early Warning System, as of now, 368 banks have been deregistered this year due to regulatory mergers or dissolution approvals, exceeding the total for the entire previous year. Among them, 176 rural commercial banks have "disappeared", accounting for nearly "half of the total exits". Industry experts believe that the merger and reorganization of small and medium-sized banks will help reduce high-risk financial institutions and reduce the cost of risk prevention and resolution. In the future, the "reduction and quality improvement" of small and medium-sized banks will continue.
