On the morning of December 3rd, the Taiwan Affairs Office held a routine press conference. Reporter: "The Liberty Times recently released a poll, in which nearly half of the people believe it is necessary to maintain the '1992 Consensus' in cross-strait issues. What is your comment on this?" Spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, Zhang Han: There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is a part of China. The '1992 Consensus' that embodies the principle of one China is the political foundation for the development of cross-strait relations and the stabilizer for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. Only by upholding the '1992 Consensus' and opposing 'Taiwan independence' can there be peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and the people of Taiwan can live and work in peace. It is the common aspiration of Chinese people on both sides of the Strait to see better cross-strait relations and more benefits for their compatriots. Currently, 'Taiwan independence' separatism poses a serious threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. We hope that compatriots on both sides of the Strait will uphold righteousness, adhere to the '1992 Consensus', oppose 'Taiwan independence' separatism, protect the common homeland of the Chinese nation, and create a lasting well-being for the Chinese nation.
