On December 1st local time, Colombian President Petro announced the resumption of civil aviation services with Venezuela. Petro stated that the United States has no authority to close Venezuelan airspace, and while the U.S. can request its own airline companies to comply with its requirements, it cannot demand the same from airlines of other countries. Due to a previous notice from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration claiming that the security situation in Venezuelan airspace has deteriorated, several international airlines had suspended flights to and from Venezuela.
