US core capital goods orders rose in September, with shipments surging. New orders for US core manufactured capital goods increased in September, and shipments of related products climbed sharply, indicating that business equipment spending remained on a strong growth trajectory in the third quarter. The US Commerce Department's Census Bureau said Tuesday that orders for nondefense capital goods excluding aircraft rose 0.5% in September, after rising 1.6% in August (unrevised); economists had expected a 0.7% increase. Core capital goods shipments, used to calculate the equipment spending component of GDP, rose sharply by 1.2% in September, above the 0.6% increase in August. Driven by heavy investment in AI, business equipment spending has posted double-digit growth for two consecutive quarters, providing important support for manufacturing and the overall economy. Economists expect the advance estimate of third-quarter GDP to be released by the US government on Thursday to show annualized growth of more than 3.0%. However, investors are increasingly focused on the rising costs of long-term projects, as returns on those projects remain uncertain. Over the past year, technology companies have raised enormous amounts of debt to fund AI spending.
Iran's Supreme Leader stresses implementation of Iranian conditions to push for an end to the war. Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a post that Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary, Major General Rezaei, met with Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. During the talks, they discussed maintaining national and regional security through management of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as consolidating bilateral relations with neighboring countries on the basis of lasting mutual benefit. Khamenei said that the enemy's predicament is the result of Iran's persistence in national resistance. He stressed that information should be released actively and promptly to sustain the public's continued participation in defending the country and the system; at the same time, efforts should be made to safeguard the rights and interests of the Iranian people and the resistance front by implementing the relevant conditions proposed by Iranian officials, in order to end the war and the situation of "neither war nor peace." Rezaei said that the Supreme National Security Council secretariat is advancing Iran's strategic policies, including "establishing regional arrangements and order led by the region itself."
BlackRock, Inc.: Energy shock will leave long-term scars on Europe's economy. BlackRock, Inc. strategists said the sharp rise in energy prices triggered by the US-Iran conflict will have a lasting negative impact on Europe's economy, but may benefit energy infrastructure companies. The strategists noted that the buffers that absorbed the first round of the energy shock earlier this year are weakening, and Europe is especially vulnerable to the shock. Higher energy prices have left Europe's GDP 0.5% lower than it would have been without the energy price increase. They said infrastructure that can withstand future energy shocks will increasingly be favored by the market, creating more investment opportunities. In addition, US and European utility stocks now also look attractive after rising bond yields weighed on share prices.

Seagate quarterly revenue rose 61%, but strong results failed to lift the stock. Data storage equipment maker Seagate Technology Holdings PLC (STX.US) reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue above market expectations, up 61% year over year to $4.23 billion. The company's guidance midpoint for next-quarter revenue is $4.8 billion, 6.7% above the market consensus. In the quarter, Seagate's DIO was 86 days, 5 days above its five-year average, indicating that the company's inventory has risen above historical levels. After the results were announced, Seagate's shares fell more than 8% at one point in after-hours trading.
Oracle Corporation expands NVIDIA Corporation chip partnership, bringing in suppliers including Alphabet Inc. Class C and Cerebras. Oracle Corporation (ORCL.US) announced an expansion of its cloud AI chip partnership with NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.O), planning to scale deployment of AI servers equipped with NVIDIA Corporation's next-generation Vera Rubin chips to the multi-gigawatt level, while bringing in Alphabet Inc. Class C TPU chips as well as AI inference chips from SambaNova Systems and Cerebras Systems to diversify computing power supply. Oracle Corporation also plans to use its in-house Acceleron networking chips in some NVIDIA Corporation servers, replacing some of NVIDIA Corporation's networking products. The company said different AI workloads have different computing power needs, and a diversified chip supply helps customers choose appropriate infrastructure based on performance, throughput and cost. NVIDIA Corporation dominates the AI training chip market, but competition in the AI inference market is more diverse. Cerebras CEO Andrew Feldman said the partnership with Oracle Corporation will significantly expand its large-customer base, and the company is moving into other companies' data centers on a large scale. Oracle Corporation has not yet disclosed the financing arrangements for this chip procurement. The company said last month that customers are increasingly bearing chip procurement costs, and it maintained its target of about $90 billion to $95 billion in capital expenditure for fiscal 2027.
