Media: Mediators push US-Iran five-day mutual concessions deal reopening the strait in exchange for lifting the naval blockade. According to reports, amid widespread concern that the US and Israel may soon launch a new round of strikes on Iran, senior representatives from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan held talks with Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday. The visit is the latest move in a recent flurry of diplomatic efforts by regional mediators. Gulf officials said Monday's talks were aimed at supporting the efforts of Qatari and Pakistani mediators to urge Iran to show enough flexibility to reach a diplomatic solution with the US. Two diplomats said Qatari mediators have been pushing for a US-Iran agreement under which both sides would make a series of concessions within five days. Under part of the proposed concessions, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz to allow commercial vessels to pass, while the US would lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports. The main obstacle to a deal is determining when each side would make its concessions. Mediators have been pressing Iran to make concessions on its nuclear program in the early stages of implementing the agreement, they added.
Canadian PM: Canada-US trade talks have accelerated somewhat but no deal yet. Canadian Prime Minister Carney said Canada-US trade negotiations have picked up slightly recently, with progress mainly due to a softening of the US position. He stressed that Canada still will not accept the terms the US proposed in August, and the two sides remain at odds over tariff relief on steel, aluminum, automobiles and medium- and heavy-duty trucks. Talks broke down on August 21, after which the US imposed a 50% tariff on about 20 billion dollars of Canadian goods, and Canada retaliated with equivalent measures on US goods. White House economic adviser Hassett said the two sides are very close to a deal, and Trump also said an agreement could be reached soon. But another US official said Washington still believes Canada's concessions are insufficient and the outlook for the talks remains unclear.

Apple Inc. acknowledges in-display screen issues in a small number of iPhone Duo units, says most devices unaffected. Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) said it has noticed in-display screen failures in a small number of iPhone Duo devices, and said affected devices typically show problems within a relatively short period, but most devices are unaffected. Multiple media reports previously said users heard a cracking sound when unfolding the phone, felt a bulge or looseness near the hinge, and then saw cracks in the inner screen, with some devices also showing white spots or abnormal bright lines. Repair platform iFixit believes the problem may stem from a failed component inside the hinge that pinches and cracks the screen. Apple Inc. has launched an investigation, with some engineers trying to obtain faulty devices for analysis; some users have received replacements, but others are waiting because stores are out of stock or appointments are difficult to book.
