On October 26, the "Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference" was held in Hong Kong for the first time. In his address at the conference, John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said that Hong Kong is a leading green and sustainable finance centre that can connect green projects with international capital and integrate green finance with financial innovation. The green transition requires the joint efforts of all parties, and multilateral cooperation can achieve greater results.
John Lee Ka-chiu said that last month the SAR government issued a new batch of digital green bonds denominated in Hong Kong dollars, renminbi, US dollars and euros, reflecting Hong Kong's ability to mobilize capital across currencies to support green development. He cited as an example that Hong Kong can bring together mainland equipment suppliers, Southeast Asian developers and Middle Eastern investors for the CECEP Solar Energy project, and raise funds, arrange investment and manage risks for all parties.
John Lee Ka-chiu pointed out that next year the SAR government will launch the "Green Technology Bridgehead Scheme" to support mainland and overseas green enterprises in bringing green solutions into Belt and Road markets and integrating technology into local needs, while also helping green enterprises in Belt and Road regions use Hong Kong as a springboard to expand into overseas markets.
John Lee Ka-chiu also said that the SAR government is working with the National Energy Administration to establish Hong Kong's first "Super Charging Technology Demonstration Station," with the goal of completing it next year to showcase technology compatible with both national and European charging standards and to play a role in a broad market.
It is understood that this year's conference was co-organized by the Hong Kong Environment and Ecology Bureau and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, with the theme "Joining Hands for Green Transformation in the South, Jointly Promoting Global Sustainable Development," and attracted more than 400 government officials and experts from 16 countries and regions.
