The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau of Hong Kong stated that the establishment of two gold refiners in Hong Kong at a time when the city is fully committed to building an international gold trading hub adds strong momentum to Hong Kong's "Gold Grand Plan."
The Hong Kong Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises recently announced a new batch of key enterprises, including two gold refiners. The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB) said the two gold refiners are establishing a presence in Hong Kong at a time when the city is fully committed to building an international gold trading hub, adding strong momentum to Hong Kong's "Gold Grand Plan." Of the two gold refiners, one is Valcambi SA, a gold refinery that Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui visited in early October; the other is Goldpoint International, whose Hong Kong headquarters has just opened and which will build a refinery in Tai Po. Hong Kong is fully developing a fully functional gold trading ecosystem that integrates gold trading, clearing and settlement, storage, refining and risk management in one place. Refining, as an important part of building the ecosystem, has seen a number of top Swiss refiners successively participate in Hong Kong's gold business, playing an important role in Hong Kong's efforts to gain international recognition and raise industry standards. The Hong Kong government said it will continue to seize the strong momentum of gold market development, actively study and implement various policy support measures, attract more international precious metals enterprises to conduct business and set up Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong, and further consolidate Hong Kong's status as an international financial center and international gold trading hub. In addition, two fintech companies also announced their presence on the same day, including Solana, which focuses on blockchain and digital asset technology, and financial infrastructure company Unlimit. The authorities said the Hong Kong SAR government has been actively promoting the development of fintech and digital assets, and Hong Kong has consistently ranked first globally in fintech in the Global Financial Centres Index. Christopher Hui expressed the hope that the presence of the two enterprises will further enrich the fintech ecosystem and help enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness as an international digital asset hub.
