The APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting was successfully held in Hong Kong a few days ago. Hui Ching-yu, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of Hong Kong, noted in a blog post that this APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting pooled momentum from all parties and opened a new chapter for Hong Kong's expansion of regional cooperation, helping Hong Kong further leverage its role as a "super connector" and "super value-adder." He also said that Hong Kong will continue to build on the unique advantages of "one country, two systems," proactively align with national development strategies, deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Asia-Pacific region and the world, and inject more Hong Kong momentum into building an Asia-Pacific community.
The blog post noted that the Finance Ministers' Meeting focused on four areas: fiscal policy supporting livelihood development, digital infrastructure financing, financial inclusion, and exchanges and cooperation among young financial talents. During the two-day meeting, participating representatives held in-depth exchanges of views on the relevant topics, built consensus, and achieved a series of outcomes, including the adoption of the 2026 APEC Finance Ministers' Joint Statement and the Asia-Pacific Regional Digital Infrastructure Financing Policy Statement, charting the course for Asia-Pacific economies to deepen fiscal and financial cooperation.
The meeting also produced outcomes including the report "Supporting Livelihood Development and Investing in PeopleFiscal Policies for Promoting Sustainable Growth in the Asia-Pacific Region" and the "Compendium of Innovative Financial Inclusion Practices in the Asia-Pacific Region," and agreed to continue advancing exchanges and cooperation among young financial talents in the Asia-Pacific region. These outcomes help stabilize livelihoods, boost productivity, support SMEs and nurture the next generation, and accumulate practical fiscal and financial outcomes for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting to be held in Shenzhen in November.
Hui Ching-yu also said that during the meeting he held bilateral meetings with a number of participating representatives to exchange in-depth views on fiscal and financial issues of common concern. Participants generally agreed that Hong Kong's financial market has a high degree of transparency, robust institutions and well-developed infrastructure, and can provide a reliable and efficient platform for regional financial cooperation. At the same time, the successful holding of the Finance Ministers' Meeting in Hong Kong precisely demonstrates Hong Kong's strength and appeal as an international financial center.
In addition, during the Finance Ministers' Meeting, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the APEC Business Advisory Council also held two thematic seminars, respectively exploring digital, inclusive and sustainable supply chain finance, and deepening Asia-Pacific connectivity and green finance cooperation.
