Single-day +40.94%, turnover 7.53%: Capital votes with its feet as the first profitable AI short-drama sample is ignited
At the close on October 21, Duiba (01753) settled at HK$1.05, up 40.94% for the day, after touching an intraday high of HK$1.13, with turnover of nearly HK$79 million.
On October 21, DUIBA (01753) closed at HK$1.05, up 40.94% in a single day, after touching an intraday high of HK$1.13, with turnover of nearly HK$79 million. By comparison, the Hang Seng Index fell 0.90%, while the A-share short-drama/interactive gaming sector rose 1.28%.
Measured from HK$0.137 on August 21, the company has risen nearly ninefold in two months; on October 14 it jumped 37.5% in a single day on an announcement of "three consecutive months of profitability for AI short dramas," and just five trading days later came another big bullish candle the market is no longer merely "paying attention"; it is repricing.
The underlying tone of this rally is not the residual heat of concept speculation, but the fact that a commercialization sample has finally grown profits and that tone is embedded in three recent announcements.
In the August interim report, DUIBAAI short dramas generated RMB223 million in revenue in their first half-year, accounting for 51.2% of the group's total revenue; in September the controlling shareholder transferred existing shares equivalent to 11.21% of total share capital free of charge into an employee reward platform a Hong Kong-listed founder donating a large stake to AI business talent, a signal that is quite blunt: the company is betting its future on an AI-Native content platform.
The third announcement on October 14 tore the mask open further: 6.8 billion in July, 12.6 billion in August, 26.4 billion in September 45.8 billion new views in Q3, more than nine times the 5 billion in the first half with a hit rate for titles exceeding 100 million views of up to 5.7%, versus an industry average of just 0.47%. More lethal still is "three consecutive months of net profit" AI short dramas have moved from "can shoot" to "can earn," and DUIBA has written the story into its income statement earlier than many A-share peers.
Toutiao uses information feeds, Douyin uses short video and livestreaming, Hongguo uses free short dramas all are essentially the same algorithm: turning attention into advertising inventory. Hongguo's daily active users hit 200 million in September with 166 minutes of daily time spent, WeChat's "Green Bubble" has entered the fray personally, and short dramas are no longer an edge piece of the content ecosystem but a platform-level track on which the giants are heavily positioned.
What is truly scarce in the industry is no longer "tools that can make shows," but systemic capability that "understands topic selection, understands distribution, understands recoupment."
DUIBA happens to be the kind of company that welds together an advertising-operations DNA, AI workflows, a self-developed Agent matrix, and a closed loop of traffic buying: about 80% of the production process is generated by workflows, a single person can produce three 70-minute long dramas per month, and the screenwriter Agent multiplies human efficiency several times over hits are not stumbled upon, they are turned out through productiondistributionfeedbackoptimization.
The capacity side is being rewritten as well: about 80% of the production process is connected to AI workflows, one producer can steadily output three long dramas of about 70 minutes each per month, and the self-developed screenwriting AI Agent boosts screenwriting efficiency by about 5x. This means output no longer grows linearly with headcount which is also the premise for its willingness to pledge 11.21% of shares to talent.
So the October 21 surge is the superposition of three forces:
First, Hongguo, WeChat, and Kuaishou have raised the industry ceiling for AI short dramas, and capital, after the AI hardware tide receded, is looking for AI applications with "revenue, scale, and signs of profitability";
Second, DUIBA's own three-stage landing from revenue validation to equity commitment to profit validation has washed "concept stock" into "performance stock";
Third, the misalignment of valuation anchors as of the October 14 close its market cap was about HK$710 million; based on full-year 2026 revenue of RMB1.2 billion and the current market cap of about HK$1.1 billion, the static PS is still far below COL Global Co., Ltd., China Literature, iReader, and Mango Excellent Media, while net assets per share are about RMB1.09 and the share price was at one point still hovering near net asset value.
The market used to price it as a "loss-making SaaS"; now it is beginning to recalculate it as an "AI content platform": if second-half revenue is no less than RMB800 million, the full year is at break-even or profitable, and the 2027 audited net margin is 6%8%, then the current price corresponds not to a concept premium but to a turning-point discount.
But beyond the impact, one must stay calm. Three months of profitability is a preliminary assessment of management accounts, not an audited statement; short-drama industry traffic-buying costs, platform revenue-sharing rules, and hit cycles can all backfire; overseas theaters, WeChat Green Bubble, and the APP short-drama alliance are still at the "edge of working" rather than "stable cash flow."
DUIBA's real test is not whether monthly views break 30 billion in some month, but whether when Hongguo, Tencent, and ByteDance all make AI short dramas a main battlefield it can rely on full-chain efficiency to keep its hit rate stably above 4%5%, versus the industry's 0.47%.
The tide has already risen. The HK$1.05 of October 21 is not the endpoint, nor a safety cushion, but the deposit the market is paying for "the first full-chain platform in AI short dramas to present evidence of consecutive profitability." Whether the stock price continues to squeeze shorts next depends on whether Q4 capacity can surge to a thousand titles per month, whether per-title cost can be pressed below RMB10,000, and whether Green Bubble and overseas can move from "significant growth" to "profit contribution."
From concept to cash, DUIBA has crossed the hardest bridge; but from cash to compounding, it has only just set out.
