The "dual-wheel drive" of core business recovery and changes in fair value.
From October 15 to 16, SHANGHAI FUDAN (01385) staged an "expectation reversal" rally: on the 15th, the stock hit an intraday low of HK$21.14, setting a new 52-week low. That same day after the market close, the company disclosed a positive profit alert for the first three quarters of 2026, forecasting a year-on-year increase of 187.63% to 248.18% in net profit attributable to shareholders for the first three quarters; on the morning of the 16th, the Hong Kong stock rebounded in response, with gains at one point exceeding 10%. By the close, SHANGHAI FUDAN closed at HK$24.84, up 13.11%, with total turnover of HK$272 million. Within a single day, moving from a "52-week low" to "an intraday gain of more than 10%," the focus of this rally is not the absolute magnitude of profit growth, but how the market reprices the "quality of earnings." The trilogy of a new low, a positive profit alert, and capital return is complete By overlaying the price trajectories of the two trading days with the timing of the announcement, the full process of shifting capital expectations becomes visible. The trading session on the 15th was the last full trading day before the profit forecast was disclosed. That day, the Hong Kong stock fell to a low of HK$21.14, refreshing its 52-week low, and closed at HK$21.96, down 3.94%; the intraday low was about 3.73% below the closing price. Back-calculating from the closing decline, the previous trading day's close was about HK$22.86, meaning the stock fluctuated in a low range throughout the 15th and failed to recover by the close. Market behavior at this stage was essentially an "uncertainty discount." After the market close on the 15th, the announcement landed. Publicly disclosed information shows that SHANGHAI FUDAN released after the close that day a "Voluntary Disclosure Announcement of the 2026 First Three Quarters Earnings Forecast": revenue is expected to be approximately RMB 3.450 billion to RMB 3.650 billion, up 14.07% to 20.68% year on year; net profit attributable to shareholders is expected to be approximately RMB 950 million to RMB 1.150 billion, an increase of RMB 620 million to RMB 820 million, or 187.63% to 248.18%; net profit attributable to shareholders after deducting non-recurring gains and losses is expected to be approximately RMB 700 million to RMB 850 million, an increase of RMB 397 million to RMB 547 million, or 130.97% to 180.47%. On the morning of the 16th, the Hong Kong stock quickly rebounded on the positive profit alert, with gains at one point exceeding 10%, corresponding to a share price back above the HK$24 level. At this point, the three steps of "first falling to a new lowissuing a positive profit alert after the closecapital returning" were complete, with the price swing spanning nearly 30% of market value elasticity. This intensity of "reversal upon landing" seems not uncommon in the Hong Kong stock market. The "dual-wheel drive" of core business recovery and fair value changes The quality of SHANGHAI FUDAN's positive profit alert this time needs to be broken down from two dimensions: core business recovery and investment elasticity. At the operating level, benefiting from the recovery in the semiconductor industry's prosperity, the company achieved growth in both revenue and overall gross margin across diversified product lines such as FPGA, security and identification, and non-volatile memory; combined with refined inventory management and dynamically optimized stocking arrangements, inventory write-down losses fell sharply year on year. This shows that the earlier strategy of proactive destocking and structural adjustment has paid off, further confirming an inflection point in core business profitability. At the same time, non-recurring gains and losses amplified profit elasticity. During the reporting period, the company recognized a relatively large fair value gain on its shares in SJ Semiconductor Corporation held through strategic placement; this capital-operation-level dividend was directly reflected in explosive growth in reported profit. But it should be distinguished that such gains are more of a statement-based elasticity rather than sustainable operating cash flow. From the quarterly data, Q3 non-recurring-adjusted profit growing quarter on quarter further strengthens the recovery signal. The announcement disclosed that for the third quarter alone, revenue is expected to be approximately RMB 1.225 billion to RMB 1.425 billion, and net profit attributable to shareholders after deducting non-recurring gains and losses approximately RMB 288 million to RMB 438 million, improving both year on year and quarter on quarter. Structurally, Q3 single-quarter revenue accounts for 35.5% to 39.0% of the first three quarters, and Q3 single-quarter non-recurring-adjusted profit accounts for 41.2% to 51.6% of the first three quarters' non-recurring-adjusted profit; the single-quarter profit volume is already close to the combined level of the first two quarters of the year. The company itself attributes the changes this period to several aspects: adhering to technological innovation and product iteration, continuously expanding the boundaries of product applications, driving revenue growth and promoting product mix optimization; the recovery in industry prosperity and growth in downstream customer demand driving revenue and overall gross margin growth across product lines; strengthening refined inventory management and dynamically optimizing stocking arrangements, causing inventory write-down losses to fall sharply year on year; and increased non-recurring gains and losses from fair value changes on strategically placed shares. Among these, the first several items are operating-level improvements, while the last is statement-based income; together they constitute the "dual-wheel drive" of this positive profit alert. Specifically, the FPGA and automotive-grade memory product lines form the core growth engines. In FPGA, the company has completed the 28nm PSoC family layout, the first FPAI 32TOPS computing-power chip is progressing well in promotion, and the company is advancing development of high-end FPGA products based on 1x nm FinFET advanced processes and 2.5D advanced packaging technology. In automotive-grade memory, the company has mass-produced more than 60 AEC-Q100 Grade1 automotive-grade EEPROM products, successfully entering the supply chains of multiple Tier1 suppliers and automakers; EEPROM products have broken through the technical bottlenecks of automotive-grade wide temperature, ultra-wide voltage, and low power consumption, reaching industry-leading levels in key characteristics such as data erase/write endurance and data retention time; 64M and above medium- and large-capacity NOR Flash products have also achieved increases in both sales volume and price. The increase in semiconductor content per vehicle brought by the centralization of electronic and electrical architectures in new energy vehicles constitutes a dual dividend of volume and structure for memory and identification devices. What did the decline on the 15th price in? What did the rebound on the 16th repair? The stock hitting a new low on the 15th reflected market concerns that were not unfounded. On the one hand, there is pressure from domestic FPGA capacity expansion and price competition. Domestic FPGA participants continue to increase, peers are densely in the mid- to low-end LUT segment, price bands have clearly moved lower, and quotes for mainstream automotive-grade devices have been pushed into a lower range; the market worries that general-purpose commercial FPGAs are sliding from "scarce domestic substitution" toward "homogeneous competition and price cuts." At the same time, the company still has an objective gap with overseas leaders in general-purpose commercial FPGAs in process, ecosystem, IP and operator richness, and routing resource utilization, so the pace of high-end product ramp-up thus becomes the decisive variable for the gross margin ceilingonce the high-end revenue share rises less than expected, the transmission of falling general-purpose product prices will first show up in the financial statements. On the other hand is the sustainability of downstream demand. The company's wording for this recovery is "recovery in industry prosperity and growth in downstream customer demand," but the market needs to distinguish between "customer restocking" and "real end demand": the former brings forward orders, while only the latter supports sustained volume and price improvement. After the positive profit alert landed, the focus of capital assessment shifted from "whether the profit multiple is sustainable" to "whether the non-recurring-adjusted and quarter-on-quarter improvements can continue." The sentence in the announcement that "Q3 non-recurring-adjusted profit improved both year on year and quarter on quarter" precisely responded to the second point above (demand continuing across quarters) and the third point (the main body of profit coming from operations), while the first point (price competition) was also temporarily alleviated by the statement that "revenue and overall gross margin achieved growth across all product lines." The essence of this reversal is that the market, through one sharp price swing, re-recognized the value of the core business recovery of a domestic chip company.
